Countdown to All Souls Con – Our Favorite Things about the All Souls Trilogy – Day Eleven – Tabitha

raquel-pedrotti-519198-unsplashunsplash-logoRaquel Pedrotti

On Day Eleven, we honor that persnickety ball of feline contempt, Tabitha. A fixture of the Bishop House–and later, Sept-Tours–Tabitha has an incredible sense of comedic timing and a penchant for tall, dark, spicy-smelling vampires. We love every scene that has Tabitha in it, but Cait’s favorite is the one where Tabitha and Ysabeau have a standoff over the book containing Philippe’s note in SON.

Do you love Tabitha? Do you have an especially funny story to tell about your own mischievous feline? Tell us about it in our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers.

Countdown to All Souls Con – Our Favorite Things about the All Souls Trilogy – Day Ten – Corra

henry-be-239191-unsplashHenry Be

On Day Ten of our countdown, we acknowledge the thematic (and humorous) contributions of Corra, Diana’s firedrake familiar. Corra is a symbol of Diana’s power, her mutability, her strength, and her need for complete freedom to work and shape her magic. At first, Diana attempts to tame Corra — she soon learns that the secret to magic (and to managing a wayward familiar) is letting it take its own shape. Corra can often be found menacing Ysabeau’s antiques or crooning at a particularly dirty song sung by Gallowglass. She is feisty, curious, mysterious, and unexpected — we love her in every scene where she appears.

If you had a familiar, what would it be? Tell us about it in our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers.

Countdown to All Souls Con – Our Favorite Things about the All Souls Trilogy – Day Nine – Gallowglass

Luke Stackpoole

Ah, Gallowglass. The wandering star, the errant Gael. Gallowglass is a favorite for many readers — gallant, thoughtful, kind, funny, generous, and extremely loyal, he centers Diana for much of Shadow of Night and Book of Life when Matthew cannot. We love his sea shanties (especially the naughty ones), his postcards, and his fond, but antagonistic, relationship with Diana’s familiar, Corra. We cannot wait to see what the universe has in store for Gallowglass — and his very worthy heart — in future books

Countdown to All Souls Con – Our Favorite Things about the All Souls Trilogy – Day Eight – Marcus Whitmore

For our eighth day, we celebrate Matthew Clairmont’s democratic, energetic son Marcus Whitmore, a vampire born into the de Clermont family during the Revolutionary War.

Marcus is a breath of fresh air in a family built on tradition — he loves fast cars, rock and roll, and the opportunity to modernize the Knights of Lazarus facilitated by Matthew and Diana’s trip to the past. We love Marcus’s playfulness, his immediate bond with Diana, and his ability to rise to the challenge of leadership while also bringing his father’s, er, “family business” into the twenty-first century. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Marcus when his book, Time’s Convert, comes out in September.

Is Marcus your favorite character? What do you most hope to see in “the Marcus book” this fall? Tell us about it in our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers.

Countdown to All Souls Con – Our Favorite Things about the All Souls Trilogy – Day Seven – Philippe de Clermont

mike-gorrell-692333-unsplashMike Gorrell

On Day Seven, it’s time to talk about Philippe. We just met Philippe in our most recent episode, and it’s fair to say that we were pretty excited. And with good reason!

Deb often says that Philippe is the center around which the world of All Souls rotates — he’s ancient, crafty, compassionate, generous, thoughtful, authoritative, and exceptionally well-read. He rules over his family with a strong will, a deft wit, and a huge, courageous heart. In Shadow of Night, Philippe starts Matthew’s journey of redemption and teaches Diana her first lessons about becoming the leader of a large, diverse political family. He sees in her the heart and soul of his future family – the care of his son, spouse, and grandchildren to come. We get so little of Philippe, but what we do get is unforgettable.

What is your favorite Philippe moment? Tell us about it in our Facebook group, the Chamomile & Clove Clovers.
